On the European naphtha markets, the backwardation increased slightly on April 25. East-West – the spread between CFR Japan naphtha swap and CIF NWE equivalent – narrowed even further. Intermonth spreads were increasing due to the tightness of the Northwest European market. According to market participants however, the return to normal operations of refineries should increase naphtha supplies to Europe and put pressure on prices and spreads. According to an Europe-based trader, the gasoline blending market for naphtha remains robust. The heavy naphtha premia to open specification is above $60/mt. According to recent refinery reports, Slovakia's 122,000-b/d Bratislava is set to begin "the spring portion of turnarounds" the week commencing April 29, with work expected last for around three months.
