Naphtha Backwardation Less Slope / East-West spreads widen

The backwardation in the European naphtha markets on June 4 was lower than the previous day due to weaker gasoline blending, and lower petrochemical demands. The East-West spread -- the difference between the CFR Japan cargo swap for naphtha and the CIF NWE counterpart -- has widened a little, while the crack spread continues to narrow, showing signs that the naphtha market is likely to be strong in the future. Market on Close's assessment process revealed a variety of trades and indications on the same day. The spread between gasoline and naphtha was much narrower than in recent weeks, as gasoline continued to be weak due to a lackluster demand for the summer driving season.
