Naphtha Backwardation Unchanged / E-W Spreads are narrow but still Strong

The European naphtha markets were mostly rangebound on June 6. There was a slight narrowing of the crack spread, and a similar prompt market structure. The gasoline blending market remained weak, despite a closed arbitrage that was largely affecting most players. One source in Europe said, "European petchem is coming down. Cracking demand is still present but unlike Asia, the pro-nap spread is still very negative." East-West spreads have narrowed a little, but remain strong because of the robust demand for naphtha from Asia. In Asia, things are strong because PDH (propane-dehydrogenation) plants use propane. It makes sense then to buy naphtha as propane is getting expensive, said a source on the European market. BP Rotterdam finished partial maintenance early this week, according to the company.
