MTBE Premium remains at $171.75/mt / Source: Demand concerns ahead of the summer season

On May 7, a source expressed concern over the sluggishness of demand in the lead-up to the summer driving season. European MTBE prices fell $7.50/mt in one day to $1,026.75/mt, FOB ARA, May 7. This represents a drop of $182.75/mt from April 12 when the downward trend began. Despite no movement during the Market on Close process, the MTBE premium over the Eurobob front-month swap remained at $171.75/mt on May 7. The spread between the front-month gasoline and naphtha decreased by $1.75/mt since May 3, to $213.50/mt. However, it still showed favorable blending margins. Sources claim that a cargo from China originally intended for Europe was redirected to Singapore for possible sale. According to the market participant, a surge in MTBE before the summer driving season is not too healthy....
