According to a reliable source, the European MTBE Market was "long" in June despite the approaching peak driving season. A source stated that there was a surge in recent demand from Mediterranean countries like Spain, Turkey and Italy, but the buy interest did not meet expectations at this time of year. European MTBE FOB ARA was $920.75/mt on June 4, down $17/mt on that day and below the outstanding offer made during the Market on Close process. Finco offered 1,000mt of MTBE at $921/mt to load during the mid-window, proving that the intraday value calculated by using the previous assessment premium over the Eurobob gasoline swap for July was incorrect.
