Asia MMA & PMMA: MMA prices soften as buyers resist high price / China MMA Cargoes Sold Out for Sep / PTTAC to close MMA plant in November

Asian MMA prices weakened week-on-week as buyers resisted purchasing at high prices. The CFR China assessment fell $10/mt on a weekly basis to $2.065/mt CFR China on Sept. 4 and the Southeast Asia assessment dropped $10/mt, to $2.235/mt CFR SEA. A source said that there were less than 1,000 mt in Kandla. The supply of MMA from regional producers was very limited. A source said that the Indian market has retreated, and is quiet. Although some cargoes of China origin were imported into India earlier, the buy-sell gap resulting from this has grown and sellers cannot sell cargoes cheaply.
