Asian MMA & PMMA: Markets fall as demand falls / China offers drop / PMMA buyers look at alternative feedstock - Sep 23, 2024

As demand decreased, the Asian MMA market turned bearish. China prices were down $60/mt on a week-to-week basis at $1.910/ mt CIF China on September 18 and Southeast Asia was down $55/ mt on a week to week basis at $1.260/mt CIF SEA. The market was slow because China was on holidays for the Mid-Autumn Festival earlier this week. Sources reported that on Sept. 18 China's offers for October were near $1,900/mt FOM China. Meanwhile, customers had ideas or buying orders of $1,800-1,900/mt FOM China. Sources in Korea stated that buyers are not stocking up spot cargo because the downstream PMMA market is weak and PMMA prices are not too high. Sources said that buyers are only buying MMA on a term basis and not purchasing any spot MMA parcels....
