Mexico PE: Spot price rises on week amid tight supply / HDPE prices rise across the board / Market activity increases before announced price hikes

In Mexico, polyethylene prices were flat or higher in all grades due to a shortage of material during the week ending July 31. Participants on the market reported increased activity in recent days as buyers tried to get ahead of price increases recently announced. Dow Chemical and BraskemIdesa announced, respectively, price increases of 5/lb & 4 cents/lb for August. Source: "Logistics problems have affected the amount imported" which is why price increases were accepted. All grades were in short supply, especially HDPE blowmolding. A second source stated that "increased freight costs from Asia, hurricane Beryl's impact in Houston, rail problems in the Mexican border, and the uncertainty surrounding the ongoing hurricane season have all contributed to the current upward trend in prices."
