Asian Methanol prices: stable to weak amid mixed fundamentals / Upswing in spot trading in China / Fundamentals in Southeast Asia balanced; Spot discussions thin

The Asian methanol market closed lower on the 2nd of August, but there was some volatility in the Chinese markets earlier in the week. In China, spot trading increased with deals at $290/mt. 4292/mt. and $294/mt. The prices were on the decline in the first half of the week leading up to August 2, as concerns about the economy took center stage. China's PMI fell below 50 for the third month in a row, to 49.4 (down from 49.5). A trader said, "People are now talking about a possible recession."
