Asian methanol closed the week at a stable level or slightly higher on Nov. 1. Dollar-denominated China prices rose due to the bullish Chinese purchasing managers' index data, and crude oil futures. Other Asian prices followed China's example. China's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (which surveys the larger state-owned firms) rose from 49.8 to 50.1 last month, according to National Bureau of Statistics data released on October 31. The methanol stockpile in eastern and southern China increased by 6.77% over the past week, reaching 1.18 million mt on Oct. 30. This capped any gains.
