India Methanol: Prices fall $15.5/mt week on week amid lower spot discussions / Ex-tank prices slip below Rupees 33/kg / Thin trading amid cautious buying interest / Reduced formaldehyde demand slows port lifting

The Indian methanol market was bearish in the week ended Jan. 17 and spot discussions slipped sharply amid growing selling pressure on anticipations of healthy incoming supply. Slow downstream demand and lower-than-usual port lifting further weighed on overall market fundamentals, market sources said. Spot trade discussions were thin Jan. 17 but a flurry of bids and offers were seen. A 5,000-10,000 mt offer for a first-half February-arrival cargo was lowered to $350/mt from $355/mt CFR India LC 30 days early on Jan. 17. A counter bid was heard at $340/mt CFR India. Subsequently, there were bids heard higher at $350/mt CFR Kandla (India) for H2 January loading/H1 February arrival. No trades were heard during the day.
