India Methanol CFR India drops $8.5/mt amid low buying interest / Domestic prices soften to stable / Buyers wary amid lower offers

The fundamentals of the Indian methanol market turned negative in the week ending Jan. 24, due to a weaker domestic market and low buying interest. India's domestic ex-tank price fell dramatically during the week, with offers at Rupees 30,75-31/kg on Jan. 24 down Rupees 2/kg from last week due to increased selling pressure and slow port lifting. Arrival of Middle Eastern cargoes has added to the port inventories. Two ships each carrying 15,000-17,000 mt of methanol are expected at Kandla. Source: "Demand for methanol is normal. However, ex-tank pricing is correcting," stated a source. Due to the lower prices, spot trading was very low. A counterbid of $320/mt was made for an offer of 5,000-10,000 mt arriving February 1-10.
