India Methanol: Prices rise $2/mt amid wide gap in buy-sell / Lower buying interest keeps the trading thin / Weak domestic demand is a factor in the price of goods

The Indian methanol spot market saw a low level of activity during the week ending September 20 due to a large gap between buying and selling interests. A seller reported that there were few enquiries, and most buyers indicated levels below $280/mt CIF India. The indicative levels were between $272 and 275/mt, while the offers of sellers were in the $290/mt area. The Middle East has a healthy supply of material, and buyers are reluctant to pay higher CFRs. Discussions were held that a methanol bid from Algeria was not awarded by India, and the cargo will be shipped to one of Baltic states. A market source said that India wanted $285/mt minimum.
