East China methanol prices plunge Yuan 108/mt in a week / China-Southeast Asia arbitrage open / Low methanol stocks at Ulsan

Asia's methanol price closed lower in the week ending Sept. 6, due to a weaker Chinese economy and bearish market fundamentals. Domestic methanol in east China fell Yuan 108/mt, or $15.25/mt on a weekly basis to Yuan 2,375/mt September 6. On Sept. 6, deals concluded earlier in week at $281/mt and $285/mt were considered high. Market sources stated that China's property market was still struggling and that this had an impact on the demand for methanol products like formaldehyde and plywood. Market sources disagreed that the drop in domestic methanol in east China was due to a temporary correction, as methanol plants were running at full capacity at 80%.
