Asian Methanol prices mixed on thin trade / Asian demand is tepid, and tight regional supply limits the downside /Spot discussion shifts to Oct

The Asian methanol market closed the week with mixed prices due to a weak demand for methanol in China, but lower production and supply rates in other areas. China started the week with a bullish note, as deals were concluded at $294/mt or $294.50/mt. Later in the week however, domestic prices in East China traded lower. Longzhong Information Services reported that the coastal methanol stock in East and South China increased 8.84% over the past week, to reach 1.12 million mt. The tight supply in Asia and New Zealand capped the downside risks. On August 30, East China's domestic prices were about Yuan 70/mt higher than two weeks earlier, at Yuan 2,483/mt (ex-tank) or $287/mt (on an import parity base).
