Asian methanol: Prices remain stable during the Mid-Autumn Festival Break / Spot talks in Southeast Asia and Korea move to November / Brent for Nov. rises by $1.98/b in a week

The Asian methanol price remained stable on September 20 due to the low trading volume, as China had been closed earlier that week for the Mid Autumn festival. Spot cargoes from Southeast Asia and South Korea are now being discussed in November. On Sept. 20, a buying indication of $350/mt was heard for CFR Map Ta Phut methanol and CFR Korea methanol. Market sources reported that product was available for delivery in November, but sellers were hesitant to make firm offers before next week when discussions would likely become more concrete. Spot trading in China was muted because of the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. On Sept. 18 the market reopened and a deal at $288/mt CIF China was made for a 5,000-mt shipment arriving in October.
