Asian Methanol: Prices rise on supply concerns / China sees brisk spot trading / South Korea remains balanced to tight

Asian methanol prices ended the week up to Sept. 13 on a bullish note, with CFR China methanol rebounding from a ninemonth low on the back of supply concerns and higher crude oil, coal and methanol futures. Trading activity was brisk in China earlier in the week, with deals concluded at $279/mt CFR China and $281/mt CFR China, followed by a trade at $285/mt CFR China Sept. 13 after domestic methanol surged Yuan 75/mt on the day to Yuan 2,395/mt, or $277/mt on an import parity basis Sept. 12. Market sources said domestic methanol prices overcorrected in the previous two weeks amid a sluggish property sector and bearish macroeconomic data.
