Asian Methanol prices mixed amid differing regional fundamentals / Increase in trade activity in China / SE Asia sellers sold-out for August / Fundamentals in South Korea

Prices in Asia were mixed as prices in South Korea and Taiwan remained relatively stable, while China's prices rose $2.50/mt on July 26. On the last day of the trading week, China saw an explosion of activity. Deals were made at $280/mt for CFR China, $285/mt for CFR China, and $297/mt for CFR China. These deals are for cargoes that will arrive in August or September. Deals were made earlier in the week at $291/mt for CFR China on Saturday, July 22, and $296/mt for CFR China on Sunday, July 24. According to sources in the market, the restart of Zhejiang Xingxing New Energy’s 690,000.mt/year methanol-to olefin facility on July 19, was one factor that supported the domestic markets.
