Asian Methanol prices mixed amid supply worries / Increase in Spot Trading in China / SE Asia fundamentals are balanced to a tight

Asian methanol was mixed on August 23, with regional supply concerns boosting prices, while other parts of Asia were stable or soft. Spot trading in China picked up during the week ending August 23. Deals were concluded on Aug. 19, at $288/mt and $285/mt, respectively. On Aug. 22, a deal was made for a cargo due to arrive in October. The market was in contango. The soaring methanol inventories in east and south China (which rose by 4.84% over the past week to reach 1.03 million mt) and tight storage space had little effect on domestic ex tank prices. On August 23, east China ex-tank domestic prices were around Yuan 60/mt more expensive week-on-week at Yuan 2,460-2470/mt, or $282-$283/mt based on import parity.
