Limited Jan-loading AA FOB China cargoes / Low inventories and high methanol prices drive up Chinese AA prices / Higher VAM prices are expected as manufacturers turn around plants between Jan-March

The tight supply of acetic acid in Asia led to a rise in prices for the week ending Jan. 9. Market sources say Asian vinyl acetate prices were stable due to thin discussions. However, an upward trend is expected over the next few weeks. On the Chinese AA Market, cargoes loaded in January for India are said to be limited. Indian buyers reported a positive response from sellers who had moved their transactions from $330/mt to $340/mt, FOB China. This is where the majority of discussions took place. Due to the low levels of AA in north and east China, at 100,000 mt, and higher costs for feedstock methanol, traders reported that domestic AA prices were also higher by about Yuan 110/mt, or $15/mt, at Yuan 2,730-2,740/mt.
