Asian Methanol prices trend lower due to increased sales / Stockpiles and tank space are a factor in China’s domestic prices / Tight supply dominates the Southeast Asia market

On Jan. 24, the Asian methanol markets closed with prices on a downward trend. CFR China methanol was down $2/mt from day to day, at $300/mt. CFR Southeast Asia was $1/mt less than the same period of time at $359/mt. CFR India methanol was $334.50/mt at the end of January, down $8.50/mt from day to day. On Jan. 24, a 10,000-mt non sanctioned methanol shipment was sold at $295/mt, CFR China. A 5,000-mt shipment was traded at $305/mt, CFR China on Jan. 23. Both cargoes are expected to arrive in China between February 5-10. CFR China methanol has dropped $4/mt in the last week due to businesses and factories closing early for the Lunar New Year holiday.
