Supply in Southeast Asia tightened in June after Malaysian methanol producer Petronas Chemicals Marketing (Labuan)'s 1.7 mt/year number 2 unit ran into technical issues and was taken offline May 4. The unit 2 was shut down on May 4 due to technical problems. The bullish momentum in South Korea and China was also noticed as buyers increased their buy indications in the week ending May 10. In China, the initial bid for a shipment arriving between June 1-10, initially heard at $305/mt CFR China, rose to $307/mt CFR China and finally to $309/mt, where a deal was concluded on May 10.
