Asian Methanol: CFR SE Asia falls $3/mt despite market tightness / SE Asian producers lower their offer price / MTO plant restarts may boost demand

The Asian methanol price closed the week lower, with CFR Southeast Asia dropping $3/mt per day. It also rose $1/mt per week despite the continued tight supply in the region caused by plant outages throughout the Middle East and SE Asia. A producer who has received inquiries from SE Asia said that "SE Asian buyers actively seek cargoes [in North Asia]". Prices remained low despite the large volume of trades completed, as buying ideas were at $360/mt. According to a market source, sellers lowered their price despite backlogs of orders. On Feb. 21, the domestic methanol price in China increased by Yuan 5/mt per day, and Yuan 30/mt (68 cents/mt) week-over-week to Yuan 2,600/mt.
