Asian Methanol / Prices fluctuate amid increased trading activity / Bearish demand in Taiwan / South Korean market has divergent views about market fundamentals / East China's domestic prices rebound due to tight supply

The Asian methanol market closed the week with mixed results, despite a surge in trading activity on 14th March. CFR Taiwan was $9.25/mt more expensive week-on-week at $360.25/mt, CFR Korea methanol was $1.25/mt less expensive on the week to $354.75/mt and CFR China was $5.50/mt more expensive on the day for $300.50/mt. On the Taiwan methanol markets, the bid for a shipment arriving between April 20-25 started at $355/mt CIF on March 14, and then rose to $360/mt CIF Taiwan by the time the Market on Close process was completed. According to market sources, supply in Taiwan and South Korea was tight due to the unstable production by a major Southeast Asian producer of methanol and a large producer in the US.
