Asian Methanol : CFR China drops $1/mt due to weaker Yuan / Mixed outlook for China’s near-term fundamentals / Thin Spot Discussions in South Korea and Taiwan

The CFR China methanol price led the way to lower Asian methanol closing prices. On August 8, the market was impacted by the Chinese yuan depreciating against dollar from Yuan 7.13/$1 to Yuan 7,19/$1. This followed a Yuan 7.13/$1 rate on Aug. 5. The tradable indications of cargoes arriving in September were $284-287/mt CFR China. Offers were $292-$293/mt on August 8. The Chinese petrochemical industry was hit by recessionary headwinds earlier this week. Methanol, ethylene glycol, styrene monmer, and purified terephthalic acids futures traded on August 5 at a price that was 1.28%-2.25 % lower than the previous closing on August 2. National Bureau of Statistics figures show that the Caixin Purchasing Managers Index in China fell below 50 for the third month in a row, to 49.4 from 49.5...
