Asian Methanol prices mixed amid different market fundamentals / South Korean spot market is a hotbed of selling activity / Market participants focus on term contract negotiation

The Asian methanol market closed mixed on October 25, with a strong sell-off in South Korea and a lack of discussion in China, despite the fact that CFR China methanol was higher in dollar terms. CFR China methanol prices were $284.50/mt, down $1/mt from the previous day but up $2.5/mt week-on-week. On Oct. 21, the Chinese central bank reduced its prime lending rates for one-year loans and five-year loans by 25 basis points, to 3.1% and 3.66% respectively. On Oct. 22, market participants took advantage of this momentum by showing a keen interest in selling cargoes due to arrive in November for $289-$290/mt FCL China.
