The Asian methanol prices ended the week of Aug. 16 with little or no change, due to regional supply constraints and a sluggish global demand. China's deteriorating economy affected methanol markets and prices on August 16. Property, which was once a major contributor to the country's demand for crude oil and chemical products, is now in a slump. A trader said that people are reluctant to borrow or spend money. A trader said that people aren't spending money on household items, furniture or renovations made of methanol derivatives. The fundamentals of the Chinese methanol industry were mixed due to tight regional supplies from Southeast Asia and New Zealand.
