Mercosur Polypropylene: Prices up this week as freight pressures from Asia continue PP homopolymer prices up $50/mt in a week / Spot copoloymer prices up $30/mt in a week / Sources : Freight from Asia is still high

Freights from Asia are continuing to pressurize PP prices in the Mercosur region. Pricing for polypropylene homopolymer was $1340/mt CFR Mercosur on June 19, an increase of $50/mt from the previous week. Spot copolymer grade was assessed at 1,410/mt - up $30/mt. A Uruguayan source said that the market was buying only what is necessary, and refusing to pay higher prices for products from Asia. A source in Paraguay said that there is a lot of uncertainty about freight costs coming from Asia. Clients who used to purchase polypropylene in Asia are now looking for regional PP and PP from the US and Europe.
