In the week ended September 20, Asia's monoethylene glycols market fluctuated within a narrow range. The week saw a weak overall demand due to a limited recovery of the downstream polyester sector. According to a polyester manufacturer, the operating rates of polyester plants in China remained unchanged at 88% for the week. "Demand is unchanged for polyester, which is a bad sign because this should be peak season. This is the main reason why MEG plants aren't buying much and polyester plants haven't ramped up. A source in China confirmed this. In September and October, the polyester market is usually more active as textile production ramps up to meet seasonal demands for winter apparel.
