Asia MEG: Falling on weak demand / Operating rates for MEG facilities at 50%/60% / DCE futures fall Yuan 20/mt day over day

The Asian monoethylene glycol prices fell $5/mt per day to $545/mt CFR China on Jan. 24, amid a slowdown in Chinese demand. The lower operating rates in China's polyester plants due to the Lunar New Year celebrations on January 29-30 continue to affect buying appetite. Actively traded May MEG Futures at the Dalian Commodity Exchange dropped Yuan 20/mt per day, settling at Yuan 4,720/mt. Buyers were not motivated to increase their purchases due to the large inventory they had in advance of the Lunar New Year holiday. MEG's operating rates were reported to be between 50%-60%.
