MEG spot prices in Europe rose as a result of the expectation that the import supply could be restricted in June due to production glitches in the US. According to multiple European sources, Lotte Chemical experienced an unplanned shutdown this week at its Lake Charles, Louisiana glycol plant, which had a nameplate capacity of 720,000 mt/year towards the end May. The unplanned outage was reported to have started on May 14 and is expected to affect June import resupply ships. This perception supported the barge market by pushing bulk prices up and flattening barge-trucks differences. It was therefore difficult for truck suppliers to earn a profit from the sale of trucks.
