Despite the slowdown in Chinese
downstream, Asian paraxylene continues to be a popular choice for buyers. A trader
in China stated that prices for PX continued to rise despite slow recovery in
Chinese downstream demand. Asian
paraxylene was up $4.67/mt to $1,084.50/mt CFR unv1/China March 23. The trader in China stated that despite weak downstream
Chinese demand, operating rates at PTA and polyester plants have not fallen
significantly so far. He said that the PTA
operating rate was between 78%-79%, which isn't bad. "OR [operating rate] for polyester majors might not
decrease before the next month." Sources
say tighter supplies of PX are supporting current prices and will continue to
