The Asian toluene price fell on May 31, in
line with the decline in crude futures prices, upstream naphtha and downstream
paraxylene/benzene. Trading
sources reported that there were talks for a small South Korea cargo to bid at
$900/mt for an immediate June arrival. However, further details have not been
confirmed. I think there will be a
shortage of toluene in June and July because [operating rates] are low. A producer predicted that the spot would not be available
until July. Another seller stated that
"Blenders have been very active in purchasing now... and in South Korea
there are no stocks [yet] in June." Sources
