said that the Asian monoethylene glycol import price was stable on thin trade
March 20, according to sources. Sources in the market said that spot
cargoes to China were not being sold as China's prices were lower than
elsewhere. Sources said that even though current MEG prices were close to
the cost of coal-based MEG production costs, there was no demand for the
cargoes and therefore no reason to raise the operating rates. Traders said
that the macroeconomic outlook was still uncertain. Trader said that MEG
consumption in Europe and the US was also down because of high energy prices
and inflation. Trader said that while the 2023 opening of MEG plants will
increase oversupply, there could be delays due to a weak macroeconomic
