Asian propylene was unchanged in Asia on May 15, despite a lack of discussion following a South Korean public holiday. Shandong prices fell, reflecting concern about the price support sustained by downstream restocking. A trader stated that there are limited fundamental upside factors in the short term. New capacities will increase supply, but overall demand remains low. Chandra Asri, Indonesia's steam cracker that uses naphtha and downstream capacity in Cilegon were shut down on May 7 for maintenance. The work would last 30 to 40 working days. Chandra Asri’s complex in Cilegon is capable of producing 900,000mt/year ethylene, 490,00mt/year propylene and 100,000mt/year butadiene. It can also produce 400,000mt/year linear low-density polethylene, 336,000mt/year high-density polethylene and 590,000. The steam cracker was running at 70-80% capacity due to negative margins in olefins.
