LG Chem may restart Daesan plant March 8 / Benzene falls $41.17/mt on week

Asian phenol prices and acetone were stable or firmer during the week ending March 4, despite several shutdowns in recent weeks. Several plants were back in production, and more were expected soon. LG Chem, South Korea, is aiming to restart its Daesan phenol and acetone plant on March 8, one day after the expected cracker start, according to a company source. The plant was shut down on February 25 along with other plants at Daesan due to an electrical failure. It can produce 360,000mt/year phenol and 225,000mt/year acetone. On March 4, phenol was assessed at $940/mt, up $10/mt from the previous week. Acetone was assessed at $760/mt, up $20/mt. Prices in Southeast Asia remained stable from week to week.
