Asian LDPE : Thin trade as buyers wait and see / Buying appetite in SE Asia is waning / Chinese prices in a downward trend

Low density polyethylene trading was light in the week ending July 31, as buyers took a wait-and see attitude amid uncertain shipping conditions. LDPE CFR Fareast Asia was down $10/mt from the previous week to $1,140/mt, while CFR Southeast Asia was down $10/mt, week-on-week, at $1240/mt, on July 31. Southeast Asia's LDPE demand is waning as customers ask for lower prices. In Vietnam, for example, bids have been heard at $1.170-$1,180/mt, compared to $1.250/mt in the previous week. A trader stated that most existing offers were still at $1,250/mt and more than $1300/mt. PE suppliers, therefore, are not willing or able to lower their prices.
