The Asian propylene market was stable on June 4, despite a lack of discussions due to a mixed outlook for the near term. Sources cited low cracker operating costs as a reason for limited cargo availability. Sources said that despite the poor demand for downstream derivatives and low production margins, there was still a lackluster restocking need in key downstream sectors. This slowed down buying appetites for imported propylene. Although downstream Chinese polypropylene has seen some improvement in recent months as sentiments have firmed, it has not led to significant changes in propylene pricing as market participants are still waiting for fundamental improvements in supply and demand.
