The European ethylene markets continued to be characterized by a low level of trading in the week ending April 19, despite persistently weak demand on derivatives markets. According to sources, spot prices on the inland and coast ethylene markets fell over the course of the week due to weaker fundamentals in the market. "April is weaker compared to Q1 primarily because [derivative] imported are less panicked than in Q1, [and] there is] quite a bit of planned maintenance in the downstream markets in April," said a producer, adding that it is expected that demand and supply will be better in May compared to April.
