US Gulf Coast spot Methanol prices remain steady despite increasing offers. Since May 16, prices have been stable. While no news was heard about May, the price of June gasoline rose from 98 cents/gal on May 21 to $100 cents/gal on May 22. The department of atmospheric science at Colorado State University has recently predicted 23 named storms with 11 hurricanes. This is well above the average for 1991-2020 of 14.4 named hurricanes and 7.2. The US Gulf Coast may be vulnerable to weather-related disruptions. However, according to data from the Energy Information Administration, the Gulf produced less than 2% (or a total of US marketed natural gases) in 2023. Natural gas is used as the primary feedstock in the US for the production methanol.
