The sentiment on the Asian ethylene market remained negative May 16 due to the lack of demand for derivatives and the abundance of supply. Participants said that cargoes were still available for June, and several parcels of the second half June delivery are not yet sold. The demand is low as buyers are cautious because of the poor margins. "But supply is abundant as several crackers have blended LPG with their feedstock instead of only using naphtha," said a China-based analyst. Trading sources reported May 16 that JG Summit in the Philippines has delayed restarting its steam cracker fed by naphtha due to technical problems.
