The Asian benzene price fell by $13/mt during the trading session, to $1.080.33/mt. The decline in price is mainly due to the changeover to a new assessment month. However, the price discussion was relatively flat. The July laycans assessment was $1,088/mt. This is a $2/mt increase from the previous assessment. The August laycans, meanwhile, were assessed at $1.065/mt - up $1/mt over the previous assessment. A market source stated that "benzene prices have risen, and downstream markets like styrene Monomer saw a drop over the course of the day." Some participants in the market expect that benzene will remain at a high level. A market source stated that "prices are high but they could remain supported because benzene supplies are tight."
