The
Asian naphtha markets were quiet on April 20, with the bearish trend continuing
during the steam cracker turnaround period. Market participants remain
pessimistic about any near-term improvements due to persistently poor
downstream demand. CFR Japan's physical crack against ICE Brent
front-month futures dropped $15.43/mt (32.22%) on the week, to $32.45/mt by the
Asian close on April 19, the lowest since January 3, when it touched
$18.58/mt. "Downstream Demand is so bad. There is no downstream
demand. "Even if [olefins] profit margins improve, demand for
downstream ethylene products remains low. We won't be profitable as we can't
sell the product," said an Unv1 end-user. The CFR Northeast Asia
