Trading for the second half of July began
as one tender was concluded. As a result of macroeconomic
uncertainty and a slowdown in downstream petrochemicals, sentiment on the
naphtha market eased. The CFR Japan naphtha crack price against the
front-month ICE Brent crude futures fell $1.13/mt or 5.83% on the week, to
$18.18/mt by the Asian close of May 31. Market
participants were still bearish about the short-term outlook for naphtha,
citing an inability to recover downstream petrochemicals due to global economic
uncertainty. A trader stated that "the only thing
supporting the market at the moment is the Western market's strength, which may
