Japan's Mitsui Chemicals purchases 25,000 mt naphtha in H1 July / Saudi Arabian naphtha imports rose 29% in March

Sources said that market participants monitored the influx of tenders on the Asian naphtha May 23. End-users were seeking spot naphtha due to weak petrochemical downstream demand and thin margins for olefins. Brokers lowered the time spread for the June-July mean of Japan naphtha Swaps to $8.50/mt at midday Asian trade on May 23. This was down by 25 cents/mt compared to the previous close. The olefins margins were in the negative as the CFR Northeast Asia Ethylene spread to C+F Japan Naphtha was 179/mt at midday Asian trade on May 23. This was below the usual breakeven spreads of $250/mt or $300-$350/mt respectively for integrated producers. In the spot market, GS Caltex of South Korea sought 25,000 mt. of full-range heavy naphtha to be delivered in the first half...
