Due to poor economic conditions for
naphtha, activity in the Asian naphtha spot markets was low on April 4. The downstream demand for
naphtha continued to be low and the market is likely to experience headwinds in
the second quarter steam cracker turnaround season. To minimize losses, this will lead more petrochemical
manufacturers to increase their LPG/naphtha feedstock to reduce losses. A bleak outlook for olefin markets was a concern due to
recessionary concerns and the global economic slowdown. An end-user stressed
that any improvement in ethylene derivatives would depend on China's recovery
