The Asian naphtha spot market picked up on
May 30, with two tenders being issued and another completed as the sentiment
eased due to a bleak market outlook. Market participants are not expecting any improvement in
downstream petrochemicals, and they emphasize that this is predicated on the
global macroeconomic recovery. This includes China. The CFR Japan naphtha crack price against the front-month
ICE Brent crude futures fell $1.63/mt or 8.37% on the day, to $17.80/mt by the
Asian close of May 29. The market is
awaiting China's May 31 purchasing managers index, which will likely reflect a
