Market participants appeared to be taking a
wait-and see stance due to the persistent weakness of downstream
petrochemicals. The
CFR Japan naphtha crack spread against ICE Brent crude front-month futures fell
by $58.53% or $21.7/mt on the week, to $15.38/mt, at the Asian close of May 16,
reflecting the weakened trading sentiment. This was the lowest level since
November 16, 2022 when it reached $12.1/mt. "China's unemployment numbers remain high, even though
its GDP has grown. "All [downstream]
products have seen a decline in price due to an excess of supply and poor
