Asian ISOMX: Mixed week as China demand emerges / Spread on PX.MX hovers near multi-month high / East China Inventory hovers below 40,000 Mt

On June 21, Asian isomer grade mixed xylene fell $1/mt in a week to $924/mt, increased $3/mt to $898/mt for CFR Taiwan, and rose $4/mt to $942/mt for CFR China. The market has been focusing on paraxylene due to improved chemical margins. The spread between PX & MX closed on June 21 at $115.67/mt, slightly below the mid-week high of $124/mt reached on June 19. This was 200% higher than a recent low of $41.33/mt for the year to date. Commodity Insights' data indicates that the last time this spread exceeded $120/mt occurred on Jan. 11, when it was $121.33/mt. PX fell 33 cents/mt from week-to-week to $1,039.67/mt at CFR Taiwan/China by June 21. This surge in chemical margins has led to increased demand for MX from Chinese PX manufacturers...
