Asian Iso MX: FOB Korea drops $8/mt per week, PXMX falls below $50/mt / Spread between MX-naphtha and methanol hovers at year-to date high / Arbitrage demand supports MX

On May 3, Asian isomer grade mixed xylene fell $8/mt on a weekly basis to $974/mt from FOB Korea to $990/mt from CFR Taiwan, and $10/mt on a weekly basis to $967/mtfrom CFR China. The upstream price volatility was reflected in a volatile week. Paraxylene-isomerMX spreads fell to the lowest level since November 14, 2022 when they hit $37.58/mt. The spread increased slightly to $49.67/mt in May 3 but remains well into negative margin territory. Producers of MX will be looking at high levels of isomer mx for the year to date compared to the naphtha. Spreads were $294.50/mt in May 2, and $293.13/mt in May 3. The last time the MX/naphtha spread was similar was October 11,2023, when it was $292/mt.Traders reported that MX was being requested for shipments...
